In what is being called a significant change for the funeral industry, New Zealand’s first water cremation service is being offered in Christchurch from next month.
Its arrival follows a long battle to get the process approved.
Water cremation, also called alkaline hydrolysis or aquamation, is used in several countries as an environmentally-friendly alternative to traditional cremation. It is already used for animals in New Zealand.
