Existing Funeral Trust clients

From 1 July 2026, customers in The Funeral Trust have automatically become customers in the Now For Them plan.

Your questions answered

New terms and conditions are being mailed to every client. The key changes from The Funeral Trust are: 

  • Now For Them is provided by a new entity, a charitable trust structure established by the Funeral Directors Association of New Zealand. 
     
  • A Funeral Assistance Payment is available on death if the money set aside isn’t enough to cover the cost of the funeral. Please note that as with the previous occasional credits in The Funeral Trust, a Funeral Assistance Payment is discretionary and not guaranteed. 
     
  • We will send an update each year which sets out the current balance, and reminders such as informing us of contact details changes, and how to check current funeral costs with a Funeral Directors Association funeral director. You can also contact your funeral director at any time for this information. 

We have set up your account in the new plan for you and no further action is required by you, but if you have questions you can contact your funeral director or the Now For Them team on 0800 332 693 or by email contact@nowforthem.co.nz. 

During 2025 we sent letters to every customer advising of the upcoming change and inviting comment. Information gathered was used to inform lawyers acting for you that most people were happy with the change. The final decision to move you to the new plan was made by the High Court on 16 June 2026.

The Funeral Directors Association of New Zealand previously offered funeral plans through insurers such as Sovereign, NZI and Prudential. These plans each have different terms and conditions so at this stage they have not been converted to Now For Them accounts.
