Behind every funeral is a commitment to care for someone with dignity and respect — regardless of their circumstances.

Recent RNZ and Newswire articles highlight a difficult reality faced by funeral directors across New Zealand: when someone dies with no money or resources to cover their funeral, funeral homes can be left carrying thousands of dollars in costs.

Yet behind those costs are real people. When there is little or no funding available, funeral directors continue to step up to ensure those who have died are cared for with compassion, dignity and respect.

Our members Jim Goodin of Rosetown Funerals and Jamie Harvey of Simplicity Funerals Christchurch both share their experiences in the articles, offering an insight into a side of funeral service that often goes unseen. Their comments reflect the caring nature of funeral directors and the commitment of our profession to looking after people, even in the most difficult circumstances.

We’re proud to see that compassion highlighted and grateful to Jim and Jamie for helping bring attention to an important issue facing funeral directors and communities across New Zealand.
